The festival took place on a dairy farm in Bethel, New York and attracted over 400,000 people. Music icons like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, the Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Who, Sly and the Family Stone, and many many more, the festival was an absolutely unforgettable experience. Here are some of the most intriguing images from that weekend that will give you a closer look at what went down at Woodstock.

Traffic Jams

Getting to the festival was no easy feat as tens of thousands of music fans waited in traffic jams to get to Bethel for the festival. The roads ended up looking like parking lots with bumper to bumper standstill traffic. Eventually the roads were shut down, leaving some disappointed fans unable to reach the festival.
