Identical Men Learn Costly Lesson after DNA Test

Have you ever wondered if there was someone out there in the world who looked just like you? Some people say that each person has a look-alike, called a doppelganger. This person is biologically unrelated to them and is their physical double. In films and movies, they’re often seen as a bringer of bad luck or an evil twin.

It’s amazing to think that you might have someone in the world who looks just like you without realizing it. However, two men got a huge shock when they discovered they had the same name, hobbies, and appearance – without being related!

Looking in a Mirror

The men looked at each other nervously while they waited for the DNA results. They looked the same, but they also went by Brady Feigl. These two had never met each other. As their test results came back, they worried that their parents had forgotten to tell them something.

Brady 1

The first Brady Feigl was born in Dallas and always loved baseball. To keep things simple to understand, let’s call him Brady 1. Throughout school, he received straight A’s and loved athletics. His mom was proud, but was she hiding something, too?

Brady 2

Brady 2 was also drawn to baseball from an early age and was born in Houston. He’d been adopted and had parents who loved him. Overall, he was the class clown and wondered what his birth parents had been like or if he had siblings. Finally, there could be answers when he learned of Brady 1.

The Mutual Passion

Both of these boys loved baseball and played through their teens. Brady 2 went to college and studied accounting, while Brady 1 chose to study political science. They both got good marks but wanted to pursue baseball. The boys met when they each got on the Texas Rangers Arlington baseball team.

Identical

The coach ended up laughing when he saw they looked alike but realized the problems that might come with being unable to tell the boys apart. They also shared the same name, so when the coach called one, they both showed up. Coach Johnson decided to do something shocking for the Bradys.

No Coincidence

Their coach was upset with the confusion because it affected the games and practices. He demanded that they find out if they were related because they were both annoying. The two Bradys wondered if there was more to it than having the same name and looking alike. Was it just a coincidence?

However, Brady 2 had blue eyes, while Brady 1 had hazel eyes. However, Brady 2 had been adopted. The moment they got offered a DNA test, they jumped at this opportunity.

Similarities Don’t End

Inside Edition learned of these doppelgangers in 2018, arranging for an interview. There, the Bradys claimed to both have had the same elbow surgery by the same doctor. That’s when they learned about each other.

The Same Procedure

Dr. Dave Andrews performed the surgery on the Bradys and was confused. He called Brady 2, believing it to be Brady 1. Brady 2 said he found out through the doctor’s office. Therefore, Brady 2 already knew someone had his name before they met.

Becoming Famous

Brady 2 said that the doctor’s office called the team trainer, asking where he was for surgery. He said he’d already had it six months ago and was quite confused. People ended up losing their minds when the story was aired about the two men.

Causing a Stir

Everyone now knew about the Bradys and their similarities. Brady 2 said that he got constant notifications on his phone, which caused him to use airplane mode for hours at a time to get some peace. The buzz continued growing on social media, with people saying they were long-lost twins or related.

Help from the Fans

The two players were fan favorites for the Texas Rangers and anyone who saw the interview. In fact, they were obsessed with the idea that they were related, setting up a Kickstarter fundraiser to pay for the DNA test. Once the target number was reached, the two men agreed to it!

Overall, the two Bradys created a stir, so Inside Edition asked to interview them in a follow-up segment. The cameras were rolling while each man put a saliva sample into the test tube and sealed them. This was a hugely intense moment for everyone!

German Ancestry

During the interview, one Brady said he’d been to Ellis Island to look up their name. Fiegel’s had moved from Germany to America, so they might have descended from a German family. However, that information didn’t get them to the truth and only caused more confusion!

The Results

Both Bradys gave their samples to send away for analysis. They knew it could be life-changing and had been dogged with the rumor of being separated twins. As they read the results, they were quite nervous. They couldn’t believe it because they realized that had many similarities!

The DNA Test

As they looked through the ancestry DNA, one Brady revealed his top result, causing the other Brady to go into shock. Both Feigl’s had 53 percent Germanic ancestry, which is likely where the surname came from. Were they twins?!

Differences

The similarities actually stopped at the Germanic ancestry. Brady 1 had 10 percent of Irish/Scottish ancestry, but Brady 2 had two percent. Therefore, they weren’t twins. Though they were glad their parents never lied, they were still connected in an important way!

Throughout the years, the two men became close friends and still use the Fred and George nicknames. Their coach does, too, so he can tell them apart. For years, Euis Trena Mustika spent a lot of time trying to find her long lost twin sister that she was separated from when they were still children. It was only until she discovered something on TikTok that her search finally yielded some results.

Their Separation

When Euis and Elis Treni were just two months old, they were separated by their parents after they started showing signs of cholera. Previously, their mother had twin sisters who both got sick and died one after the other, and she thought that their deaths were interconnected.

The Worry

Euis shared: “My mother was worried that if one twin was sick, the other would be too. And when a twin died, the other would die too. So for the time being they must be separated.”

They Moved

Their family had just moved from West Java to Ambon, an Eastern Indonesia city. They had seven other children, so they decided to place their sick twins with separate migrant families, who also had moved from Java.

Losing Contact

Although their parents were able to take Euis back a few months later, they lost contact with Elis’ adoptive family a year later after that family decided to move back to East Java. Her parents did give the adoptive family permission to take her with them, they just didn’t know where they moved to and did not have their new address.

Another Complication

Another detail that made the situation complicated was the fact that they had allowed Elis Treni’s adoptive parents change her name to Treni Fitriyana. This followed the Javanese tradition that someone that has become sick should change their name.

She Didn’t Know

While Euis grew up know that she had a long lost twin sister, Fitriyana had no clue that her sister existed. That’s why when she received a message on her phone twenty years later, she was absolutely taken aback.

The Message

Fitriyana saw a message show up on her screen from someone that claimed she was her sister. She said: “They asked my name, whether my parents have ever lived in Ambon and I said ‘yes’.”

Was It Real?

At first, she wasn’t sure if this could possibly be a real message, and at first suspected that it was a scam. However, she looked at Euis’ photos on Facebook and she saw their striking resemblance.

Not Asking

She decided not to ask her adoptive mother, Rini, about the situation. She said: “I don’t want to hurt my mother. So I better keep quiet until she tells me.” However, after Euis posted a YouTube video about looking for her lost twin sister, Rini told Fitriyana the truth.

Why She Hid It

Rini finally shared the story with her adoptive daughter. Fitriyana said: “The reason why she didn’t tell me was because she didn’t want to lose me.” However, Fitriyana didn’t feel betrayed or disappointed, since Rini was the only mother figure she ever had.

The Long Search

Euis had been searching for her sister since she was in high school. She had posted on social media sites like Facebook, but nothing worked. She shared: “[It’s because] my dad got the name wrong. He told me my sister’s name was Fitriyani instead of Fitriyana.”

The TikTok Video

She then decided to make a YouTube video, but that didn’t help either. Finally, after 24 years, a TikTok video brought the two sisters together. The two were so thrilled to find each other after so many years apart.

Their Joy

Euis shared: “I was speechless. [I felt] so happy and confused … I wasn’t 100 per cent sure it was her because I hadn’t done a background check, but we started communicating. When she saw me for the first time through a video call, she broke into tears. I felt so happy that I had finally met the person I had been looking for.”

Their Reunion

Once the two were reunited, emotions were high. Rini said: “I was shocked. [Our faces] look the same … my children couldn’t even tell which one was their mother.” Fitriyana shared: “[We’re] the same. She is talkative, so am I. She’s stubborn, so am I. But we’re different to our husbands, she’s more patient than me.” Unfortunately, their biological mother passed away in 2019 so she did not get to witness the reunion, but Euis said: “Our parents must’ve had reasons why we were separated, there must’ve been a good and wise reasoning. No need to blame anyone.”
