Meet Bobby
Bobby is a young Cockapoo who is living with his human family in Sydney, Australia. This family consists of George, Kyla, and their young son named Peter. Bobby and Peter are both two years old and have grown up together.
An Inseparable Pair
The parents decided to get Bobby when their son was a baby because they wanted Peter to have a companion. The idea worked out excellently, as the pair are incredibly close. They do almost everything together, especially going on walks with Peter in the stroller.
A Perfect Match
The family is very happy with their life with Bobby, and the same can be said for Bobby. However, this wasn’t always the case for Bobby. That’s because the chances of Bobby ended up with a caring and nice family were extremely slim.
A Ruthless Breeder
Bobby was born to a mother who was owned by a ruthless dog breeder who had dollar signs for eyes. To this breeder, Bobby was only another puppy born to make him money. He didn’t care for the puppy’s wellbeing and only wanted money.
Only a Product
Along with his brothers and sisters, Bobby was sold to the highest bidder, which was the case for every dog under the possession of the breeder. All of these bidders typically weren’t looking to provide the dogs with a good home.
Sold to Anyone
These dogs had no security for their future. In some cases, these dogs might be sold to a loving and caring owner who would treat them the way they should. Otherwise, they might be sold to an illegal zoo and be used as food for the other animals.
Treated Poorly
Bobby was seen as a product, so he was treated poorly. He was given only enough food to survive and he was forced to live in a very tiny cage. He wasn’t even permitted to exit his cage for a walk and he had a tough first few weeks.
Getting Arrested
However, Bobby got extremely lucky because his breeder was arrested only a couple of days after he was born. The operation this breeder was conducting was discovered and shut down immediately by the Sydney police. After his arrest, all his dogs were put up for adoption.
Looking to Adopt
This is where George and Kyla come into the picture. Peter had been welcomed into the world only a few weeks prior when they read that it’s excellent for a baby to be around a puppy from when they are young.
Love at First Sight
Seeing as George and Kyla wanted a dog for themselves for a long time, they took this opportunity to get the dog. It seemed like the perfect time. They immediately fell in love with Bobby when they went to the adoption office.
The Challenge of Adopting Bobby
The family was required to fill in endless loads of paperwork. In addition to this, employees from the animal shelter also needed to inspect the family’s home to ensure it was fit to raise a dog. They also discussed the responsibilities of being a dog owner.
Caring about Bobby
It might seem like this procedure was a little overboard to adopt Bobby, but the employees at the animal shelter cared for Bobby and wanted to make sure he went to the right home. Everyone fell in love with the doggo after he arrived at the shelter.
A Lovable Dog
Bobby was incredibly shy when he was first placed in the animal shelter. This was probably because he didn’t receive enough love and affection. That’s why it took him a while to get used to being around caring employees, but he soon loved every minute of this attention.
Many Requests to Adopt
The puppy was so well-liked by the staff at the animal shelter that some members wanted to adopt him as well. However, there was something always preventing this from happening. Nonetheless, Bobby easily found a family that wanted to take him home.
Getting Adopted
Nonetheless, the staff at the animal shelter believed that George and Kyla would be responsible owners and signed the documentation to ensure that the adoption would go through. It looked like Bobby had found his forever family and it was exactly what he needed.
A Lot of Energy
Kyla and George didn’t have the biggest house. Nonetheless, Bobby was quite small, so he had all the space he could ever need. His energy often sent him flying around the home and he would knock over items in the process.
Calming Him Down
Bobby had already broken two vases before Kyla and George decided that they needed to find a way to prevent this from happening. Luckily, the parents quickly found that there was one thing that seemed to calm the dog down.
Meeting Peter
The parents soon found that their son, Peter, could help calm Bobby down. Peter was only a few weeks old. At this time, Bobby didn’t have any idea how to react to the strange baby. Nonetheless, he was always curious about the tiny and unfamiliar creature.
Together for Hours
Bobby soon built up the courage to get close to the baby. Once this happened, there was no turning back. The dog didn’t leave the baby’s side for hours. He could lie next to him and react to every movement, but he never barked or did something to upset Peter.
Strong Bond
As George and Kyla fell in love with Bobby, Bobby fell in love with Peter. The adorable pair seemed to have created an incredibly strong bond and this was likely to them both being the same age when they met.
Everything Together
Bobby and Peter were a strong pair who did everything together. They went on walks together to the park where Peter would be in a stroller. They grow up together to the point where Peter was walking alongside Bobby as they went to the park.
Keeping Each Other Entertained
In the house, the pair continued doing everything together. There was nothing they wouldn’t do with one another. Bobby was always playing with Peter and it seemed like they had lots of fun together, which only made George and Kyla happy.
Loud Barking
One night, George and Kyla were awoken from Bobby barking. At this point, Peter and Bobby were both three years old. The couple wasn’t sure what was happening, but they could hear Bobby barking loudly in the middle of the night, which was unlike him.
Hearing Cries
After a while, George and Kyla recognized that the barking was accompanied by faint cries, which they could immediately recognize. It was their son. Without a moment’s hesitation, they jumped out of bed and went to see what was happening.
Rushing
Many scenarios began rushing through the parents’ heads. Was Bobby trying to get their attention because Peter was in trouble? Did Bobby hurt Peter? They didn’t think the latter was possible, but they still needed to figure out what was happening.
Having a Stand-Off
Once the parents opened the door, they encountered something that they didn’t expect. Bobby and Peter were both on their feet and it appeared like the two were in some kind of standoff. Peter began crying even louder now that his parents were in the room.
Away from the Table
It looked like Bobby was trying to keep Peter away from the table next to the couch. He was even blocking him to stop the young boy from going in the direction. With every step the boy took, Bobby would bark even louder.
Didn’t Know Why
Kyla and George first didn’t know why Bobby was behaving this way, especially at this time of night. However, they quickly understood once they saw what was on the table. Peter’s elephant plushy was still on the table from the day before.
Peter’s Toy
This elephant plushy was Peter’s favorite toy and he always went to bed with it. It seemed as though he had woken up during the night and realized that he didn’t have his favorite toy with him, but this didn’t explain Bobby’s strange behavior.
George’s Attempt
George took a few steps to try to grab the toy, but Bobby acted in the same way and started barking. He wouldn’t let George close to the table to take the toy. Something wasn’t adding up. This was completely out of Bobby’s character.
Didn’t Budge
This was completely unexpected and it made George confused and a little annoyed, as he had just woken up in the middle of the night. The father got mad and told the dog off, as he made his way to the table, but this didn’t stop Bobby.
Picking Him Up
By this point, George had decided that it was enough and he picked up Bobby. Although the dog tried to resist, he was only a tiny cockapoo who couldn’t do much. Nonetheless, he kept barking at the top of his lung while in George’s arms.
Grabbing the Plushy
Now that Bobby was out of the way, Kyla could walk to the table and grab the plushy for Peter. However, she quickly noticed something underneath the toy as she was about to grab it. It was something that she didn’t expect to see.
A Huntsman Spider
At the bottom of the plushy, a massive huntsman spider crawled into view and Kyla rapidly stepped away from the table. Although these creatures are incredibly common to spot in Australia, they had never encountered one so big before and it was alarming.
Jumping and Screaming
Kyla instantly began jumping and screaming when she saw the creature. This didn’t help the situation, as Bobby only started barking louder and Peter began crying again. Even though Kyla wasn’t typically afraid of spiders, this one came out of nowhere.
Grabbing a Pan
After George saw the spider, he quickly handed Bobby who was still barking to Kyla, and rushed into their kitchen. He came back carrying a pan, which he was going to use to trap the spider. He knew he had to act rapidly before the spider moved away.
Trapping the Spider
Once he returned to the living room, he could see the spider walking to the edge of the table. George decided to slowly and carefully approach the table to place the pan on top of the spider and trap it.
A Sigh of Relief
Once George had trapped the spider, Bobby stopped barking and the parents simultaneously breathed a sigh of relief. Their hearts were still racing, but they could finally calm down now that the spider was trapped. They couldn’t believe that just happened.
Checking the Plushy
Even after everything that happened, Peter was still balling his eyes out for his precious elephant plushy. George walked over to the plushy, picked it up, and inspected it. He made sure there weren’t any spider eggs before handing the toy to his son.
No More Crying
George was satisfied that the plushy was safe and handed it back to Peter. This allowed Peter to calm down and the parents decided to put him back to bed with Bobby following behind. The parents were grateful that Bobby was there to protect Peter.
