Not Fixed on the Car Crash
The rescuers kept running back and forth to make sure that they had the correct equipment. These rescuers were focused on doing their job right and making sure that everyone was safe. When the police showed up, their vision wasn’t fixed on the car crash.
A Pile Up
A car crash had taken place on the highway, which meant that the road was even more limited than it usually was. There were five police vehicles, two EMTs, and an ambulance on the scene. Not to mention the traffic that was attempting to get through.
Not Helping
The police vehicles were blocking the rescuers’ way. One of the rescuers, Troy, ran to the sergeant to ask them to relocate their cars. These rescuers were preparing to take the injured person to the hospital and needing these vehicles out of the way.
An Ignored Request
The sergeant reluctantly asked his squad to relocate their vehicles, but this request was ignored. Troy and the other rescuers were shocked. The sergeant also wasn’t happy with his deputy but he couldn’t do anything as the cruiser’s door was locked.
Looking for a Solution
Troy’s patience was quickly starting to dwindle, and his temper was rising. EMT training taught rescuers to remain relaxed, but Troy had never been trained for this type of situation. The ambulance was fully prepared and ready to go, but the team was unable to move.
A Tow Truck
That’s when Troy noticed the tow truck on the other side of the road. The man quickly asked the tow truck driver for assistance in getting the police cruiser off the road. It turned out that the tow truck driver was called onto the scene as an additional person.
His Drop Rate
Troy quickly asked what the man’s drop rate was, which the man rapidly labeled his market value. The sergeant could only grin. However, the man had no time to lose because they had jobs that needed to be done. What happened next was utterly unexpected.
The Towing
Troy and the sergeant could see the entire event unfold. The tow truck driver latched the cruiser to his tow truck and began starting up his engine. Before anyone noticed, the cruiser was already along the roadside when the cruiser’s owner quickly ran after the driver.
The Events
Troy got into the ambulance and zoomed away with the injured person. However, he heard the remainder of the events that occurred from the sergeant. The rookie officer wasn’t amused by his cruiser being towed away, but no-one paid any attention to him.
The Reveal of His Drop Rate
The tow driver quickly revealed to the rookie police officer that his drop rate was 100 dollars. This didn’t impress the rookie one bit and he turned to his sergeant for assistance. However, the sergeant only stared back at the officer.
Paying the Price
The officer continued trying to get his cruiser back and said that he would give 40 dollars as a drop rate, but the tow driver didn’t budge. The driver then stated that it’s more if he pulled away. It was then that the rookie officer took out his wallet to pay.
Getting Taught a Lesson
It was clear that it killed the rookie officer to pay the 100 dollars to the tow driver, but he handed over the money to the man. Once the car was firmly on the ground and had been unhooked, the officer quickly speed away. The sergeant could only laugh.
An Attitude
The rookie officer had only been on the force for a mere few weeks. It was clear that he had an enormous sense of self-importance that got in the way of his duties. It seemed that he acted like he ran the place, which the squad had been getting sick of for a while.
He Didn’t Have to Pay
Although the rookie officer ended up paying 100 dollars to the tow truck driver, he didn’t have to because there wasn’t any law enforcing the payment. However, this was entirely a worthwhile experience that obviously needed to be learned. He wasn’t exempt from the law.
The EMT
After the tow truck moved the rookie officer’s cruiser, the EMT was able to get to the medical facility. Troy and his team were able to get the wounded person the necessary treatment. Everything turned out alright, and the entire team could laugh about the situation.
Sharing the Experience
Once Troy found out about the officer paying the drop rate, he was so delighted and surprised that he left the need to share it on Reddit. The tread on Reddit was later called ‘Petty Revenge.’ Readers loved the story and it received tons of replies, who shared similar experiences.
More Stories
One user on Reddit shared an experience when he worked for the local FD as an FF/EMT. He was working on a car accident scene, and his team had parked the ambulance and truck close to the location. However, a rookie officer didn’t like where they had parked and made the team move 200 ft away.
The Chief and the Cop
The user went on to say that his chief firefighter didn’t take well to the cop’s commands. The chief’s team had to pull her off the cop, and the police chief was quickly on the scene within five minutes. The PD even bought the fire department dinner that night.
Another Story
Later down the thread on Reddit, another user wrote about a similar event involving the fire department and a cop. The user had been working as a volunteer firefighter for several years and had been dispatched to an accident as the second engine.
Following Protocol
The volunteer firefighter followed protocol by blocking two left lanes to ensure the victims’ and crew’s safety on the accident scene. It’s normal for the second engine not to move until the entire team is finished on the scene, but a trooper disturbed this.
A Ridiculous Demand
The trooper told the volunteer firefighter to move the vehicle, as he wanted to open up the third lane of traffic. However, this was ensuring the safety of those at the scene of the accident, which the firefighter told the trooper, but he didn’t take no for an answer.
Leaving Notes
More users began commenting on the story on Reddit. It seemed many emergency service workers had experienced similar stories. However, one user shared a story where people left a note sarcastically thanking the team for blocking their driveway. This definitely didn’t take well when this is done to ensure another individuals’ safety.
It Happens Frequently
In most cases, ambulances are almost always right in every situation. This is for the simple reason that the people in these vehicles are saving lives. However, it’s shocking to see the threatening letters these emergency services receive. On average, one employee gets harassed a day.
Saving Lives
Emergency services have tried to explain to people that all people need to do is come and speak to those on the scene. In some cases, they are able to move the vehicle if it’s blocking your access. However, in other cases, it’s merely impossible.
A Pittsburgh Parking Enforcement Officer
The story of a Pittsburgh parking enforcement officer is similar to the others mentioned above. However, she didn’t learn his lesson by paying a drop rate like our rookie officer. Instead, she was suspended after blocking an ambulance from moving.
She Was Caught on Camera
Allegedly, the police officer was said to be blocking the street with her car and was caught on camera refusing to move her cruiser for an ambulance. This brought much shame to the Pittsburgh Police Department, and many people had something to say about the incident.
The Incident
The Parking Authority Executive Director, Dave Onorato, has gone on to state that the incident occurred on Atwood Street in Oakland on November 16th. The ambulance has lights and sirens on when the female officer decided to block the vehicle in and prevent it from going anywhere.
Channel 11
The Parking Authority Executive Director told Channel 11 that any police officers affiliated with the Pittsburgh Law Enforcement Department aren’t allowed to block streets. Instead, these officers are trained to pull over to a ‘safe area’ that’s mainly for emergency vehicles, like ambulances.
Unidentified
The police officer has remained unidentified. However, it has been confirmed that she has been suspended without any pay while she awaits the result of her investigation. The public was outraged that what the police officer did, which is understandable.
